The Story of Kong
The KONG story began with a German Shepherd named Fritz.
Fritz had a thing for chewing on rocks and sticks. One day, his dad Joe tossed a rubber axle stop his way while
working on a VW bus—and Fritz fell in love.
That little moment of joy sparked the idea for the KONG Classic.
To bring the joy of playtime to even more dogs, a tough, new line of rubber toys for large dogs and power chewers came to be: the KONG Extreme.
Followed by a floating rubber toy with a throw rope: Cool KONG (later renamed KONG Aqua).
KONG planted roots in Golden, Colorado with the construction of the first KONG office and manufacturing facility. This building is still our World Headquarters, where all our rubber products are made.
KONG began to focus on health and wellness with the introduction of KONG ZoomGroom and KONG Dental to help dogs live happier, healthier lives.
Word got out that KONGs were more than just a durable chew toy; when stuffed with treats, they were also a mentally stimulating puzzle that helped reduce unwanted behaviors caused by boredom!
To encourage customers to stuff KONGs for their pups, Stuff'N Paste (later renamed Easy Treat) was introduced.
This decade is all about exploring new ideas. To reach more pets than ever before, we've done exciting things like bringing an animated pup to life on the Vegas Sphere, launching a KONG-shaped hot air balloon, and producing a limited-edition blue KONG in collaboration with Volkswagen and VCA Charities.
